Reviewing the Laws

Attorneys and Legal Services

One of the biggest issues in the HOA world besides abusive and toxic HOAs is the lack of attorneys who are willing and able to serve homeowners.

Most attorneys that deal in HOA law are large firms that earn their money by representing HOAs. Those attorneys that don't are more knowledgeable in real estate or contract law, but not necessarily the specifics of HOA law.

Unfortunately, that leaves homeowners even more vulnerable as they must battle their HOA and the law firms that represent them alone.

We are looking to list law firms who fully and honestly represent homeowners to list here. Please contact us if you have a referral.

And please be careful!!!

There are a number of legal, semi-legal, or non-legal agencies that claim to help homeowners, but they really cannot do much of anything but take your money.

L. S. Carlson Law

California and Florida

UNVERIFIED

I have not worked with this firm, but it may be a group to look into in CA or FL. I found them through finding a book published by Mr. Carlson titled, "Bad HOA: The Homeowner's Guide to Going to War and Reclaiming Your Power." Found HERE

I welcome recommendations and reviews of the firm and/or the book.

John B. Miller & Assoc.

Atlanta, GA

An attorney who has since left this firm was referred to me by an advocate colleague, so I cannot personally vouch for any of their attorneys at this time. However, I do hear more than usual about positive results in court cases, depending on the case, of course.

The most common complaints I hear have to do with poor communication and excessive fees, esp. for paralegal work. I experienced this myself, so be VERY clear about your expectations for communications as well as fees.

Their retainer fee and review fees were steep, but no unusual compared to other firms I've worked with or heard of.
